10 Level Program

A structured 10 level program catering for young children from beginners through to the swimming the formal strokes. Our program also includes the vital lifesaving skills your child needs – treading water, survival strokes, safe entries & clothed swimming.

Preschool Levels


  • Participate happily
  • Splash water with my hands
  • Wash my face with wet hands
  • Do a humpty dumpty


  • Enter safely and eagerly from a sitting position
  • Relax in both front & back cradle position
  • Climb out of the pool with assistance
  • Move legs whilst being towed
  • Go to the deep water


  • Attempt intentional movement towards an object
  • Wet my hair with toys or hand
  • Am comfortable to have my face splashed wet
  • Blow bubbles
  • Enjoy games and eagerly join in
  • Attempt kicking
  • Relax in both front and back position – assisted


  • Walk through the water independently
  • Imitate my parents/teacher by putting my face in the water
  • Kick a short distance with a board – assisted
  • Regain a standing position from a board
  • Blow bubbles whilst paddling & kicking
  • Jump from the edge to my parent or teacher


  • Relax in both front and back float position using flotation aids
  • Roll over from front to back float
  • Submerge in a sitting position & blow bubbles
  • Tread water for 10 sec with flotation aids
  • Dog paddle with flotation aids


  • Unaided back float (5 seconds) and stand up
  • Unaided front float (5 seconds) and stand up
  • Roll over front to back float unaided
  • Kick on my back with a board (5 metres)
  • Open eyes under water
  • Know to ‘Never run around the pool’


  • Jump from edge and recover to a back float
  • Glide on front & back
  • Torpedo (2 metres)
  • Kick on back with board (8 metres)
  • Swim unaided (3 metres)
  • Submerge & pick up an object from waist deep water
  • Slide Entry
  • Be rescued in deep water


  • A torpedo through a hoop
  • Kick on my front or back with a board (10 metres)
  • Swim unaided (5 metres)
  • Freestyle arm action on a kickboard (8 metres)
  • Backstroke arm action on a kickboard (8 metres)
  • Be involved in deep water experience (wearing clothes)
  • Tread water for 15 seconds
  • Back float for 15 seconds
  • A safe jump entry
  • A basic rescue


  • Use freestyle arms for a short distance (No breathing)
  • Introduction Breathe & blow bubbles – correct head position
  • Back kick – unaided (8 metres)
  • Backstroke – unaided (4 metres)
  • Perform a kneeling dive
  • Tread water in deep water for 15 seconds
  • Backfloat in deep water for 15 seconds
  • Recover an object in chest depth water with one hand


  • Freestyle with breathing (8 metres)
  • Backstroke (8 metres)
  • ‘Whip kick’ with a kickboard
  • Tread water in deep water for 30 seconds
  • Backfloat for 30 seconds
  • Tread water in a shirt & long trousers for 15 seconds & be rescued
  • A slide in entry, a Safe jump entry & standing dive


  • Kick 25 metres or more using a kickboard
  • Introduction Breaststroke kick
