Here's Why Kids Need to Learn to Swim
You, as parents, have decided to make sure your children have great swimming skills. If your swimmer gets into a difficult situation, we want them as good as possible to give them every chance to reach safety. Hopefully, an adverse situation doesn’t happen, and they can enjoy the fruits of yours and their labors.
Do these happen? Unfortunately they do.

The question is: When will the next time be when my child has an unexpected immersion in water? The article above certainly high lights what the answer is. We Don’t Know!!!
Eltham Swimming School is going FOOD FREE
With a high incidence of food allergies amongst children these days, we have taken the decision to make our swimming school a Food Free Zone.
Unlike schools, kindergartens etc, it is difficult for us to monitor children at risk from food allergies, and as such we are asking all parents to not bring any food into our centre.

Swimming Club News
Club swimmers have been really stepping up their training in preparation for the long course season (50m pool). Some great results lately.
Tara Draper (10yo) has been to multiple events recently, which has resulted in some very encouraging times. At Lilydale on 17th July, she achieve a 5th place in Backstroke (PB), 7th in Breaststroke. Freestyle and Butterfly were down a bit.
Jayden Carr (8yo) had a great meet, winning backstroke (pb) & butterfly (pb) & 2nd in Breaststroke. The highlight of Jays meet was coming 3rd in freestyle….but improving his time from 55.00 to 46.92…..a massive improvement.
Thomas Elia competed in his first external competition. How’s this for a first effort.
5th Overall in backstroke in a time of 49.70.
5th overall in breaststroke in a time of 60.03
6th overall in freestyle in a time of 46.08
Swimming Squad News — Gold Medals Galore!
Nearly 40 swimmers attended our mini meet on the 29th June. The great majority of them received a gold medal for either attending their first meet or gaining a new PB (Personal Best) in one or more events
2011 Mini Meet Dates
This is a fantastic way for your child to set a personal best time, and/or compare times from previous meets.
If you have not done a mini meet before, the children can enter the races they want to, for their appropriate age. Our aim is to give the children a “time” for each of their events, which they try to better at future mini-meets…..ie: they race against their own time.
Mini meet dates are as follow:
- Wednesday 29th June. 6pm warm up, 6:30 start
- Wednesday 24th August. 6pm warm up, 6:30 start
- Wednesday 26th October. 6pm warm up, 6:30 start
- Wednesday 14th December. 6pm warm up, 6:30 start
A Fantastic Start to the Year!
Whoo-hoo to all the kids who have had a fantastic first term. I know from my own groups, that the swimmers have enthusiastically tackled their swimming. What a boost to self confidence, and self esteem as the children master new and often complex skills.
Congrats to some of our senior swimmers. Paige Goodwin is a member of the 16yo State Champions Medley Relay Team.
She has also achieved a National Qualifying Time for both 50m Freestyle, and 50m Backstroke. Paige is applying to be selected for the Victorian Schools Swimming Team to compete at the Australian National Championships.
Other swimmers went very well at the state championships. Congratulations to Georgie, who also achieved a National Time in her 50m event. A huge achievement for a 10 year old.
Well done to Tara, and Ashley whose relay teams acquitted themselves very well.
Eltham Swimming School Water Testing
Aqua Science consultants conducted their random sampling of our Pool on the 22nd of March. Our combined UV/Chlorine system again produced excellent results.
The Certificate is on display in reception and the full report is available at the swimming school for anyone to see should you wish to do so.
Bring a Pre-Shcool Buddy to Bunny Week (April 12-15)
We had such a wonderful time with Bunny Week. TESS was out playing games and showing all the buddies about Water Safety!
